Other Ways of Keeping Up To Date

I've set up a serious Google Alert on a topic that is currently very important to me and am now awaiting breaking news about this issue. It was really easy to set up as I am sure Yahoo is, but am leaving it at that because both Google and Yahoo Alerts are as useful as all the others are for keeping up to date on so-called hot topics and/or anything one is passionate about. I'm sure any patrons who don't yet know about this will be delighted to learn about it. It is ideal for breaking news.

The bottom line of course remains that information is useless unless one makes the time to read widely in order to gather relevant and comparative information, to then think deeply about it, reflect intelligently on it, and then make the ultimate connection, to act wisely on it. The greatest problem with bits and bytes of information is that one can inadvertantly censor information for oneself by only reading in areas that confirm one's own beliefs and not open one's mind to other beliefs and points of view.

This is where the internet will hopefully come into its own as the ultimate tool for building bridges accross countries and cultures. My hopes are still high in this regard.
