Talk about the blind leading the blind!
I searched Twitter as directed and found mostly meaningless comments. This isn't about information at all, it is about gossip and tracking the trends of the lowest common denominator so that politicians and industry can do what they do best - use the trends to manipulate society and make fortunes for themselves.
The best I can do is to quote Andrew Keen again. In the introduction to his book, "The Cult if the Amateur," he says, "It's ignorance meets egoism meets bad taste meets mob rule, on steroids." He goes on to say that we are "collectively corrupting and confusing popular opinion about everything from politics, to commerce, to arts and culture. Blogs(Tweets) have become so dizzyingly infinite that they've undermined our sense of what is true and what is false, what is real and what is imaginary. These days kids (adults) can't tell the difference between credible news by objective professional journalists and what they read on joeshmoe.blogspot.com(Twitter). For these Generation Y Utopians (and their parents and even some grandparents) every posting is just another person's version of the truth; every fiction just another person's version of the facts."
No one will read his book of course because it is more than 140 characters long!!!!!!!!
Is that why we are now housing Graphic Novels in our libraries - because a generation is being brainwashed into looking at pictures and reading bubbles of speech containing less than 140 characters? We complain about genetically engineered food, what about our socially engineered children and grandchildren?
As Einstein said, "Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.”
